The Benefits of French in Early Years

At Petite Luminaries Montessori (PLM), we believe that early childhood is a window of incredible potential—especially when it comes to language development. That’s why we’re proud to include French language exposure as part of both our Toddler and Casa programs.

Why Introduce French Early?

Research shows that young children are uniquely wired to learn languages. In fact, the earlier they are introduced to a new language, the more naturally and effortlessly they absorb it—through sound, rhythm, repetition, and play. Introducing a third language, like French, not only supports communication but also enhances overall brain development.

Learning a second or third language at an early age has been shown to:

  • Strengthen memory and concentration

  • Improve problem-solving and critical thinking skills

  • Enhance listening abilities

  • Boost cognitive flexibility and creativity

  • Increase cultural awareness and empathy

At PLM, we integrate French in a playful, meaningful way—through songs, stories, vocabulary games, and daily conversation.

A Montessori Approach to Language

In keeping with the Montessori philosophy, our French program is not taught in isolation, but rather woven naturally into the children’s environment. Children hear and practice the language in real-life contexts that are developmentally appropriate and rooted in their everyday experiences.

Our French teacher visits every classroom twice a week, bringing joyful energy, interactive activities, and exposure to French through storytelling, movement, and song. Whether it’s singing a color song in French or naming animals during circle time, children are gently immersed in the language in a way that feels fun and familiar.

A Lifelong Advantage

Language learning in the early years doesn’t just benefit children today—it sets them up for long-term academic and social success. Bilingual (or trilingual) children often demonstrate better executive function, enhanced literacy skills, and a greater ease in picking up new languages later in life.

More importantly, learning French opens doors to cultural understanding, confidence in communication, and a love for learning across borders.

At PLM, French Is More Than a Subject—It's a Bridge to the World

We’re proud to offer an enriched environment where children grow not just as learners, but as global citizens. Through our French language program, we plant the seeds for curiosity, connection, and lifelong learning.
